MUMBAI, AUGUST 20: Two school-children received minor injuries when a low-intensity transistor bomb exploded outside a BMC school at Unnat Nagar, in Goregaon (West) at 12.30 pm today. After they came out of the school's main gate, the students Manoj Kumar Gaud (14) and Mulayam Singh Yadav (11), noticed a radio lying beside the compound wall. As soon as they picked up the device it exploded, injuring them on their legs and hands. Both were rushed to the Cooper hospital, where they were discharged after first-aid, the Goregaon police said.
According to the police, the device contained low-intensity explosives and was operated with a detonator. ``It contained a pencil cell and a small amount of explosives. The children must have pulled some wire or knob on the deceptive device which led to the explosion,'' they added.
According to the police such devices were designed to look like radios, toys and seemingly harmless articles and were generally used by terrorists.
The police have appealed to the citizensof Mumbai not to touch any abandoned object and report to the nearest police post or inform the police controls when they notice any suspicious looking objects.
