MUMBAI, Aug 20: The drama of the rapprochement between the alliance partners ruling the State was preceded by an aside that not many are aware off. Chief Minister Manohar Joshi in a retaliatory action handed his Deputy, a letter that would have only served to provoke a continued stand-off, if the tone and the strong wording are any indication.Reponding caustically to charges that the Shiv Sena adopted a negative approach towards BJP's demands, Joshi in a strongly worded letter said, ``Like the BJP, we can also explain as to how the alliance government had to face embarrassment owing to the indifferent attitude of the BJP concerning major problems.''
The Chief Minister reminded Munde that the election manifesto was jointly worked out by both the BJP and the Shiv Sena and so there was no question of one of the them being ignored in the process.
On the question of restoring land to margin farmers, Joshi pointed out that the Cabinet had taken a decision to restore the land long back.
Subsequently, twospecial meetings were convened to implement the same, but, despite promises, Munde failed to attend the meeting. And to prove this, Joshi had also attached a letter written by Revenue Minister Narayan Rane intimating Munde about the meetings.
On setting up of an autonomous corporation for OBCs, Joshi submitted that for the last three months, the subject was listed on the agendas for meetings dated June 29, August 11 and August 18. In fact, had the BJP not boycotted Tuesday's Cabinet meeting, the decision to set up the corporation would have been taken that day itself.
Joshi also denied that BJP had approached him with a proposal for setting up a separate department for nomadic tribes and withdrawal of cases against those who participated in the agitation for Ram temple at Ayodhya. ``As a Home Minister, it was Munde's responsibility to bring such a proposal before the Cabinet, but he failed to take any such initiative and is now blaming the Shiv Sena for it,'' Joshi claimed.
Meanwhile, some Cabinetmembers have expressed strong displeasure over the manner in which Munde handled the entire episode. While it was decided that the BJP will press for Joshi's dismissal, no such proposal was mooted at the high-level meeting, a senior BJP minister added.
