CHANDIGARH, Aug 20: The Chandigarh judo squad (boys and girls) will leave on August 29 for the Junior national judo championships, to be held at Cuttack from September 1.The probables are undergoing a camp at the Judo Coaching Centre in the Panjab University Campus under the supervision of coach Jagdeep Singh.
Among the boys, Pankaj Saini (65 kg section), who won a bronze in last year's North Zone Judo championship and Mukesh Solanki (56 kg), who won a gold in the School Nationals last year and also attended the junior Indian team's camp, continue to be the best medal hopes. The boys team is dominated by the SD School judokas.
Priyanka (48 kg), who bagged a gold in last year's School Nationals, will be the main flag bearer among the Chandigarh girls. Most of the other girl probables will be making their debut in the meet.
A total of eight boys and seven girl judokas constitute the two teams.
Probables: Boys: 40 kg: Sandeep, 45 kg: Naresh (both Government Model School, Sector 40). 50 kg: Sunil Kumar, 56 kg: Mukesh Solanki, 60 kg: Arun Chaudhary, 65 kg: Pankaj Saini, 73 kg: Om Prakash and Ranbir Solanki (all SD School, Sector 32).
Girls: 36 kg: Vandana (GMSSS, Sector 36), 40 kg: Suchita (GMSSS, Sector 32), 44 kg: Sunita (GMSSS, Sector 33), 48 kg: Priyanka, 52 kg: Ekta (both GMSSS, Sector 19), 56 kg: Jyotsna (GMSSS, Sector 21), 61 kg: Mrignayani (GMSSS, Sector 16).
