Vaghela impresses allies

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
AHMEDABAD, Aug 20: By collecting a massive crowd from all over the State at the sprawling Ramlila Maidan for the Rashtriya janata Party's state convention here today, RJP supremo Shankersinh Vaghela apparently succeeded in killing two birds with one stone.

Besides driving home the point to the Bhartiya Janata Party governments at the Centre and in the State not to underestimate his potential, Vaghela made his partners in the National Democratic Front realise that he was still a force to reckon with.

No wonder, the NDF leaders - from Laloo Prasad Yadav to Mulayam Sing Yadav to Buta Sing - who were present, were all praise for Vaghela.

Some said the RJP chief had begun his tandav nartan against the saffron forces from the land of the Mahatama, while others compared his `courage' with lion and tiger.

Surveying the jampacked venue, NDF president Mulayam Singh Yadav gave an ``open invitation'' to all the leaders of secular parties to join hands with the NDF in its ``unending fight'' to dislodge the ``ineffective, oppressive and communal'' BJP governments at the Centre and in the State.

Referring to the fodder scam in which Rashtriya Janata Dal leader and former Bihar chief minister Laloo Prasad Yadav has been named by the CBI, Mulayam thundered: ``If the RJD leader and his wife and Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi are touched on the issue of `fodder scam', the NDF will launch such a massive movement in the country that it will become impossible for the BJP government to survive.''

Accusing the BJP Government of hatching conspiracy to remove the leaders espousing the cause of the downtrodden and minorities from the political scene, the former defence minister alleged that even his files were being closely examined by the Home Ministry so that he could also be framed in some scam.

Lambasting the Government in his typical style, which was received with thunderous applause by the audience, Laloo said: ``Unhonen Kya kiya panch bomb phor diya aur Pakistan ne chuh Bomb phor diya. Aub US ne sanctions laga diya aur kamar tod mahengai ho gai aur sare padosi desh dushman ban gai" (In their bid to save their government, the BJP leaders carried out five nuclear tests and in response Pakistan carried out six. What the government achieved ultimately except isolating the country and plunging it in the unprecedented recession).
