Trees planted as part of `Save Surat' campaign
EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, Aug 20: As a part of its `Save Surat' campaign, Srishti-Preet, a WWF-India's venture, planted saplings on Independence day. Srishti-Preet, which is now poised to give momentum to its campaign, has also identified places where tree-guards have been lying without the trees. There were about 1000 tree-guards at the roadside of the city awaiting to protect any trees and such idle guards should be used purposefully, said Rohit Bhujbal, education advisor (WWF-India) in a statement issued here today. Srishti-Preet has also adopted `Greet Triangle' area in Parle Point and Ghod Dod Road area, identified such spots and planted trees. It had been observed that many saplings were planted along with the plastic bags which is one of the main reasons for early death of saplings, he stated. Some trees which have grown up enough and require no protection are still protected with guards, which should be removed to protect other trees which need protection, he suggested adding that removable tree-guards should be used in future to avoid its wastage.
