Complaints committee meets

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
SURAT, Aug 20: Additional Collector R J Patel, while chairing the monthly District Co-ordination and Complaints Committee meeting here at the collectorate on Thursday, exhorted the district administration and implementation officials to ensure that the state government's welfare schemes reach people living in remote areas of the district. He said they were the most deprived lot.

The meeting also mourned the death of Deputy Information Director H H Sur, who expired after a prolonged illness earlier this week. Almost all elected representatives of the people, including MLAs, were present for the meeting. Each raised issues and discussed problems faced by residents of their respective constituencies.

R J Patel announced that a parivartan cell had been set up at the collectorate as per a state government directive. He said anybody could walk in and inquire about any welfare schemes or lodge a complaint in any context. Patel said besides seating arrangements, other basic facilities would also be provided at the cell, that will be manned by an able official.

Patel said the cell would serve as an information centre for elected representatives and other leaders, who wished to have first-hand knowledge of the progress of welfare schemes in their respective areas. Matters relating to pensions, loans, among others will also be co-ordinated from the cell, he said.

In reply to a representation of the problems of Olpad taluka by MLA Dhansukh Patel, regarding trees blocking the route to the harijanvaas area of Kosamba and Mangrol, he directed the concerned official to resolve the matter in a week's time. The additional collector also assured to resolve a matter within a fortnight, where farmers of Olpad were reportedly not allowed to become members of a local cotton co-operative body.

Representations were also made by Kamrej MLA Rathod, among others. Officials like DSP Vaghela, DCP (admn) Bunet, RTO K M PAtel and others attended the meeting.
