VADODARA, Aug 20: The Vadodara Municipal Corporation on Thursday decided in-principle to resurface 40 main roads of the city at a cost of Rs 13 crore and appoint consultants to plan for widening underbridges, bridges and nullahs.A decision to this effect was taken in the Standing Committee meeting held under the chairmanship of N V Patel.
A proposal of the administrative wing states that several roads have not been resurfaced for the last several years. According to Patel, the work will be carried out as per unit rates decided by the General Board. The civic body plans to complete the work by March 31, 1999. The provision for the amount is likely to be made in the revised budget for 1998-99.
Environmental Planning Collaborative, an Ahmedabad-based agency, will be appointed to prepare a report to improve the condition of river Vishwamitri and ponds within VMC limits and the Vadodara Urban Development Authority (VUDA) area.
Consultants will also be appointed to widen three underbridges - Alkapuri, Dinesh Mill and Priyalaxmi Mill; several bridges, including the Kalaghoda, Munjmahuda, near Vishwamitri and Baucharaji; and the flyover between Atladra and GIDC as the railway crossing often remains closed due to passing of trains. The members also finalised the place for installing high-mast lights near Kalaghoda and Mahatma Gandhi Nagar Gruh.
Stay order: Sujal Advertisers on Wednesday got an interim injunction against removal of its hoardings put up in and around the Vadodara Railway Station.
Paresh Shah of Sujal said although the VMC had earlier given permission to install hoardings on the railway property, on Tuesday it asked the advertisers to bring down the hoardings within three days. According to him, 37 hoardings have been put up at a cost of nearly Rs 22 lakh. The VMC in its letter has stated that the hoardings were not as per VUDA regulations. Shah, however, argued that the VMC did not object to the number of hoardings and the sizes, which were submitted along with the sketches earlier. The next hearing is slated for August 24.
