MUMBAI, AUGUST 21: Beginning Monday August 24, the Indian Army will be fighting a war of a different kind. As part of its environment conservation week, army units in Mumbai will spread the message of preservation of ecology.A no plastic bag campaign which seeks to eliminate plastic carry bags from the army area will be undertaken during this week. The army will also offer other solutions to make the city more livable. Activities include tree plantation, wasteland management, pollution control, promotion of renewable energy resources, vermiculture and an environment education and awareness campaign.
Last week, army jawans planted over 3000 saplings on the Mahalaxmi Race Course ground. Brigadier R N Kapur, Commander, Mumbai Sub Area, described the work done by the jawans as an attempt to strengthen their ties with the city.
Eco week will be celebrated simultaneously at various locations of army units such as Kandivali, Malad, Kalina, Marve, Wadala and Colaba.
