India open against Australia at Dhaka

PRESS TRUST OF INDIA
CALCUTTA, AUG 22: India will open their campaign against Australia in the International Cricket Council's fund-raising mega event -- Wills International Cup -- to be held in Dhaka from October 24 to November two.

A victory against Australia in the October 28 quarter-final could pit India against either arch rivals Pakistan or West Indies in the semi-final of the first-ever knock-out limited overs tournament.

All the nine Test-playing nations would feature in the ITC-sponsored mega event to be held under floodlights at the Bangabandhu National Stadium in Dhaka which would be hosting an event of such magnitude for the first time.New Zealand and Zimbabwe would feature in a pre-quarter final match on the inaugural day of the championship on October 24.

Dalmiya said that the tournament would offer a total prize money of $ 400,000. While the winners would get a purse of $ 100,000, the runners-up would be richer by $ 60,000. BCCI tightens control.

MUMBAI: The Board of Control for Cricket in India (BCCI) hasdecided not to allow Indian players to take part in private enterprise `benefit' or `friendly' ties, held anywhere in the world, except during a specific 20-day period earmarked at the end of the domestic season on April 23.

The board's missive has come in the wake of a strong letter addressed to it by the Emirates Cricket Board (ECB) questioning why the ECB's permission was not sought by the organisers of an exhibition match, featuring Indian and Pakistani stars, at Dubai recently.
