NEW DELHI, August 23: Coming down heavily on the Centre for ``masterminding'' CBI raids at Bihar Chief Minister Rabri Devi's official residence, the Rastriya Loktantrik Morcha today asked President K R Narayanan to intervene in the matter and demanded immdiate resignation of Prime Minister Vajpayee and Home Minister Advani.A high-level delegation led by Morcha president Mulayam Singh Yadav, who met the President this evening alongwith Rabri Devi, also asked President to call Bihar Governor Sunder Singh Bhadari to explain his ``hand-in-glove'' with the Central leaders.
``If raids have to be carried out on the basis of allegations, then why has the Prime Minister's Office (PMO) been left out,'' Mulayam Singh asked the President while referring to a charge levelled by AIADMK supremo Jayalalitha that hefty amount was paid to persons close to the Prime Minister to ensure transfer of ED Director Bezbaruah.
Morcha has also given a bandh call tomorrow in protest against the raid conducted in connectionwith a disproportionate asset (DA) case in the fodder scam against Laloo Yadav.
During the meeting, the aggrieved Morcha leaders told the President that ``the entire incident smacked of political vendetta as the BJP was getting increasingly nervous over the growing popularity of the Front.''
Morcha leaders also handed over a 17-page inventory prepared by the CBI inspector R K Sinha to the President and said ``since no incriminating documents were recovered during the raid, both Prime Minister and Home Minister should own moral responsibility and relinquish office.''
Seeking ``suitable measures'', they also accused Vajpayee and Advani with using the prime investigating agency to serve their ``political considerations''. They have also threatened to take the issue to the street, Legislative Assemblies and the Parliament.
``If the duo did not resign, Morcha MPs and MLAs would sit on dharna before the Rashtrapati Bhawan to press for their demand,'' they said.
Alleging that the raids were conducted inan effort to prepare grounds for dismissal of the government in Bihar, Mulayam Singh said that ``it has created a serious constitutional crisis. The Centre has misused its power by ordering the raids...it is dangerous for democracy.''
``Mujhe to ek kamra mein band kar diya..us samay mere pati (Laloo Yadav) bhi Patna me nahi they,'' Rabri Devi told The Indian Express. She further said that CBI sleuths prevented her from attending to important files, particularly those relating to flood relief in the state.
``CBI ke logon ne kaha ki raid karne ka aadesh upar se aaya hai aur isliye wey log aaye hain (CBI officials confessed to her that the raids were ordered from the top and that is why they had come to her residence). She said the raids were not only meant to malign and embarass the state chief minister, but were also aimed at humiliating the poor and Dalit women all over the country.
``Mein to anpadh aurat mukya mantri hun'' (I am an illiterate woman chief minister), she saidadding ``Vajpayee and Advani should be ashamed of themselves for insulting an illiterate woman. The people of the state will never pardon them.'' When they could not find anything incriminating, they begged apology from her, she added.
Earlier, an urgent meeting was held at the Morcha office. Besides Mulayam Singh, the meeting was attended by Laloo Prasad Yadav, Rashtriya Janata Party chief Shanker Sinh Vaghela, Rabri Devi, Jharkhand Mukti Morcha leader Shibu Soren, Buta Singh, Amar Singh, Janeshwar Mishra, Ranjan Yadav and Lovely Anand.
