MUMBAI, August 23: In another incident of assault on a senior citizen, a 74-year-old woman was raped and robbed at her residence in the plush locality of Khar on Saturday afternoon.According to investigation officer sub-inspector Dilip Wadgaonkar of the Khar police station, the incident occurred at around 12.30 pm. The woman told the police that an unidentified man forced his way in when she stepped into her flat in her building at Carter Road after she returned from a friend's place.
She claimed that before she could raise an alarm, the man hit on her head and she slumped to the floor unconscious. In her statement to the police, she claimed that the man had raped her and then went on to ransack her house in search of valuables. The robber decamped with her gold ornaments including her bangles, gold chain and other valuables worth Rs 25,000, she alleged.
An unidentified caller alerted the police at 3 pm. She was admitted to the Bhabha hospital in Bandra for treatment and medical checkup forverification of her rape allegations. The police say that some bruises have been found on her head, hands and face. ``We are yet to receive the medical report,'' said Wadgaonkar.
