Water-supply projects to be completed soon

VADODARA, Aug 23: About 250 group water-supply projects worth Rs 56 crore, being currently undertaken in Vaghodia, Savli, Sankheda and Padra talukas, will be completed in the next six months, said State Water Supply, Mines and Minerals Minister Narottam Patel.

According to an official release issued here on Sunday, Patel, while addressing a gathering at Kayavarohan village near here, said that State government had also finalised a plan to set up a large number of group water resources worth Rs 60 crore in the remote tribal areas, which would also be completed soon.

Patel inaugurated a new water tank constructed at a cost of Rs 11.75 lakh at the village on the occasion, the release added.

The minister sought a fresh survey of all the water tanks requiring repairs and the requirement for new tanks to be constructed in the interiors of the districts. He also decided to give Rs 15,000 to every village with 3,000 to 15,000 population and Rs 35,000 for villages with population more than that.

Member of Parliament Naranbhai Rathwa, who was the special guest on the occasion, also addressed the gathering and said that he had apprised the authorities concerned about the developmental requirements of the rural parts of the district, while referring to water supply projects on the villages located on the banks of Dadhar river and repair of water tanks and non-functional telephone lines.

Member of Legislative Assembly from Dabhoi Sidharth Patel, who presided over the function, Sinnor MLA Chandubhai Dabi, vice-president of Panchayat Ilaba Jadeja and other guests, who also spoke on the occasion, lauded the State government's efforts to ease the problems pertaining to water supply in rural areas. Several senior officials of the Panchayat department, civic bodies and social activists were present on the occasion.
