VADODARA, Aug 23: To be a good leader one must know how to differentiate between effectiveness and efficiency, this was stressed at a workshop on, `Service Above Self,' organised by the Rotary Club of Jawaharnagar here on Sunday.Addressing the gathering, Management Consultant Murli Mehta said, ``It is easy to be a leader, but to become a good leader one must have a good sense of humour.''
Mehta said it only a cheerful leader could get the best out of his sub-ordinates. Sharing his experiences, Mehta observed that it was necessary for a leader to be a visionary, because he had to strive not only to bring out the best of the present, but also think of the future.
Defining effective and efficient, he said many leaders in various corporate sectors were efficient in their own job, but were not capable enough to lead a group.
Mehta pointed out that to lead a group, the first quality that an employee looks forward to from his leader was whether he could render service to others besides serving himself.
``If a leader draws applause from others for having rendered service to his juniors and helping them attain success, only then can he be called a good leader,'' Mehta said. Mehta stressed the need for hosting more such workshops so that people from various fields could share their experiences and enable others to perform better in their respective jobs.
