Three more golds put Britian on top
Colin Jackson, Denise Lewis and the 4x100 metres relay team propelled Britain to the top of the medals table on the penultimate day of the European Championships in Budapesty. World high hurdles record holder Colin Jackson emulated his former training and business partner Linford Christie by winning a third European title in a championship record 13.02 seconds. Lewis won the heptathlon title despite the lingering effects of a left ankle injury which had threatened to end her season prematurely.Team selection
The last has not been heard on the IOA-BCCI tug of list. While the mighty Board of Control for Cricket in India surrendered meekly after the unexpected ICC slap, the Indian Olympic Association president Suresh Kalmadi twisted the knife further in, asking the Board to `hurry up' with team announcement. The BCCI had made it clear that it would announce the team only on September 4 after the preparatory camp now on in Chennai.
India crush Pak
Finding their scoring rhythm after the interval, hosts India registered an emphatic 2-0 win over arch rivals Pakistan to virtually assure themselves a place in the 31st Asian Youth Football Championship to be held at Thailand later this year. The fluent win took the hosts to the top of the leader board of the Group VI Qualifying Round league, with nine points.
PSEB move up
Punjab State Electrcity Board (PSEB) are not exactly takers of the English variety of soccer even though they demolished Air-India's challenge in the Kalyani Black Label Cup in Mumbai using very much the same nuances. The Punjab side flummoxed the local league champions 2-1.
India finish last
The Indian `developmental' hockey team's campaign in the Panasonic Masters tournament in Hamburg ended on a disappointing note as they lost all their matches to finish last in the four-nation tournament. Hosts Germany won the title.
