Hat-trick by Aniban Basu
Vasant Valley will take on Modern School (Vasant Vihar) in the senior division final of Bro. Mahony inter-school football tournament. In the semifinals, Vasant Valley beat Naval Public School 4-3 via tie-breaker while Modern accounted for Delhi Public School, R K Puram 3-1, also through the tie-breaker.S K Appachu, Sandeep Chopra, Supriyank Walia and Karan Lamba converted the penalties for Vasant Valley while Balachander Nair, Sunil Gupta and Sanjeev Janardhanan were successful with the penalty kicks for Naval Public School.In the other semifinal, Sidharth Aggarwal, Ashwani Malhotra and Arjun Bawa scored for Modern while Abhishek Mishra was the lone goal-getter for DPS.
In the junior division, DPS (RK Puram) and Modern School (Barakhamba Road) will clash in the final. In the semifinals, DPS beat Vasant Valley (Vasant Kunj) 5-0. Karan Sud scored two goals while Thanmal Jha, Sachin Sharma and Sidharth Chauhan scored a goal each. In the other game, Modern defeated St Columba's 3-1. Aniban Basu scored a hat-trick for the winners while Ratrishi Kapoor reduced the margin for St Columba's.
Pant shines
Excellent bowling efforts by Rakshit Pant (4 for 7) and Ishan Bakshi (4 for 16) enabled Gary's Academy beat Sonnet by 84 runs in the semifinal of Namdhari Suba Ganda Singh memorial tournament (under-13) at Hari Nagar sports complex.
Gary's Academy: 166 for 5 in 30 overs (Sahil Jaggi 32, Gaurav Chhabra 28, Rakshit Pant 25, Hardeep Singh 2 for 32).Sonnet: 82 all out in 22.3 overs (Shikhar Dhawan 37, Rakshit Pant 4 for 7, Ishan Bakshi 4 for 16).
Ramjas in final
Ramjas School, No. 4 moved into the final of Ramjas basketball tournament and will take on Raj Rifles Boys School in the final. In the semifinal, Ramjas beat Modern School, Barakhamba Road 56-41. Gaurav and Yogesh scored 18 and 11 points respectively for the winners. Amarpreet Singh (12) and Kunal (11) were the main scorers for Modern School.
Raj Pal triumphs
Raj Pal of Jawaharlal Nehru Stadium and Bhagwati (P.V.) won the men's and women's section events in the weekly Reebok Otto Peltzer Races. The senior boys and girls events were won by Gauri Shankar and Anushila respectively. Jitender and Meta were the winners in the junior section.
Big win for HQ
Headquarters and Delhi Division will clash in the final of the Northern railway inter-divisional football tournament at Ambedkar Stadium on Monday. In the semifinals, Headquarters defeated Ferozepur Division 8-0. Aftab Ashraf (3), lalit Singh (2), Mohd Kamil, Sameer Das and Shahid were the goal-scorers.In the other match, Delhi prevailed upon Moradabad 4-1. Shyam Kumar (2) and Sumesh Gosain (2) scored for the winners while Kashinath reduced the margin for the losers.
Bhilwara chess
Anurag Panwar and Harish Sharma led with 4.5 points at the end of the fifth round in the Bhilwara Student Chess (u-25) at the Russian Cultural Centre. Gurpreet Pal Singh, Ashwani Gagan Chitkara, Deepak Rai and Anil Verma were in the second spot with four points each.
