NC maintains vigil on Centre's reaction to Srikrishna report
The National Conference has said it was "actively watching" the Centre's role regarding the Srikrishna Commission report, which has been rejected by the Shiv Sena-BJP government in Maharashtra. Omar Abdullah, son of Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Farooq Abdullah, said that the three-member NC parliamentary group would withdraw support if the temple construction work at the disputed Ayodhya site was allowed.

Maharashtra bows to Bengal pressure, Munde persists
In sharp contrast to the Maharashtra government's decision to toe the line of the West Bengal government while deporting alleged Bangladeshi infiltrators, Deputy Chief Minister Gopinath Munde said that the process of deportations would be resumed after Diwali.

EC spikes Centre's export schemes
Four of the country's export promotion schemes have been struck down by European Commission on grounds that they were indirect subsidies to exporters that hit the European industry. The schemes amount to financial contributions by government, which sacrifices duties, the commission ruled on complaints against the schemes.

CIA, FBI differ on Laden's role
America's top intelligence agencies Central Intelligence Agency (CIA) and Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI) have taken contradictory positions on the issue pointing responsibility in the recent bombings in US embassies in Kenya and Tanzania. While the CIA maintains that the bombings were carried out by Saudi dissident Osama bin Laden's men, the FBI has "no final conclusions'' about who bombed the two embassies.
