Cong derides BJP's Jaipur resolution

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, Aug 24: The Congress today ridiculed the Bharatiya Janata Party's Jaipur resolution, saying it was like a dancer blaming the floor for his non-performance.

The BJP national executive had blamed successive Congress governments, the Opposition's attitude and constraints of coalition politics for its government's failures. This was ridiculous, and was no justification for the BJP's non-performance, party spokespersons Ajit Jogi and Girija Vyas told reporters.

They said modern India was the legacy of successive Congress governments-- something to be proud of. As regards the role of the Opposition, they said that the Congress never wanted the BJP Government to be brought down. But if it collapsed on its own, the party would fulfill its constitutional responsibility.

The Congress had given constructive co-operation to the BJP-led Government on issues like Prasar Bharati and women's reservation, but the government failed to pass the necessary bills, they said.

Jogi also reiterated the Congressdemand for follow-up action against all those mentioned in the interim and final reports of the Jain Commission, which inquired into former prime minister Rajiv Gandhi's assassination.

Asked about the party's reaction to Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam leader Murasoli Maran's claim as regards Home Minister L K Advani's admission that the inclusion of Tamil Nadu Chief Minister M Karunanidhi's name in the Action Taken Report was an ``inadvertent error,'' he said he would react only after studying the reported communication from Advani.
