Swim coach's crocodile plan foiled
DARWIN: A swimming coach planned to spice up his training sessions by putting a three-metre (10-ft) crocodile in the pool to make his athletes go faster. Mark Davies' plan was foiled when the reptile park which was to supply the crocodile backed down, while Darwin City Council said it would never had let him get away with it anyway. Davies said he planned to drug the crocodile and wire its jaws shut before putting it in the normal pool with his squad of swimmers, aged 7-20."I had told them that to help them swim faster they should imagine that a three-metre crocodile was chasing them, so I thought, because our sponsor is Crocodylus Park, we might be able to actually get a real crocodile,'' Davies said on Thursday.

Big turn out for World Cup of Golf
WELLINGTON: At least five of the top 10 players in Europe will play in the NZ$ 3 million World Cup of Golf at the Gulf Harbour Country Club, North of Auckland, in November, organisers said on Thursday. Amongthe big names confirmed are Nick Faldo, Thomas Bjorn, Colin Montgomerie, Ian Woosnam, Andrew Coltart and Mark McNulty. Faldo, one of the most accomplished golfers of the modern era, has won six major titles -- three US Masters and three British Opens. He also has 33 international titles. His England team-mate is David Carter, ranked 14 in Europe and who recently won the Irish Open in Dublin.
