Cops crack 5 murders with arrests of Shakeel men

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, Sept 3: Five important murders, including three double murders in the last two months, have been cracked with the recent arrests of five Chhota Shakeel gangsters, claim the police. The gangsters have reportedly confessed that they had murdered Arun Gawli's key associates, Raju Kanade and Chandrakant Talke, at Juhu on July 31. The duo were managing the gang's finances in the north west suburbs.

The gangsters also confessed to killing Malad builder Ajay Mishra near his Evershine Nagar residence on August 12. Mishra had allegedly shifted allegiance from the Shakeel gang to join hands with Chhota Rajan. On August 16, Republican Party Activist Kishore Jhate and his associate Vijay Vaze were gunned down at Kandivli. Jhate was killed because he broke away from the Dawood gang to operate on his own. Two days later, said the gangsters, they gunned down Rajan's henchmen Joseph Peter and Parakash Kadam at Andheri.

The gangsters said they were instructed by one Fail and Shakeel to kill one Kirit Bhai atBorivli, stated PSI Allad Gaikwad. They had also planned to target Rajan's henchmen Vicky Pagare, Gunga and Bablya Kholade.

The killers are often in the dark about the identity of their targets, added the police. The gang's boss conducts a three-point conversation between the assigned killers and `watchers', who keep a tab on the target. The boss takes information from both the watcher and the target and orchestrates the killing. ``Interrogations reveal that most of the contract killers have no prior information on their targets. They are able to identify whom they have killed the next day,'' stated PSI Natin Bhonsale Patil.

The team carried out investigations under assistant commissioner of police Dashrat Avhad, inspector A Pote, PSI Vilas Gangwne, S Ghogle, P Tiwari, Jagdish More and Ashok Sarate.
