MUMBAI, Sept 3: It has been a topping year for Harish Narayan. First, as a standard X student of Vani Vidyalaya, Mulund, Harish cracked the SSC merit list this June. Now, as a freshman at Ruia, he bears the brunt of his college's chess ambitions. Harish has scored a maximum 6 off as many rounds to give Ruia an impregnable lead in the penultimate round of the Junior College Sports Association Inter-College Team Chess Tournament, conducted at the Somaiya College of Engineering, Vidyavihar, today.Ruia, with 10.5 points, are one point clear of second-placed RA Podar. Even if Podar were to tie with Ruia, the latter will be declared winners as they enjoy a better progressive scoring. Somaiya Science were placed third with 9 points.
In the sixth round, Harish and teammate Aditya Vora demolished joint leaders BV & LU 2-0 to relegate the latter to the fourth position. Harish is one of the few players in the fray with experience at the national level, even if his performance was indifferent. "I have not beenconcentrating on chess. Academics (engineering) is my priority," parries Harish in defence.
