VADODARA, Sept 3: The Central Excise and Customs department has launched a novel `Kar Vivad Samadhan Scheme 1998' for solving old disputes and litigations between the department and assesses as also to realise the tax arrears piling up with assesses, according to an official release issued by Central Excise and Customs Commissioner D K Acharya.The scheme launched on the pattern of VDS scheme of the Income Tax department in order to net in more taxes for the government has come into force on September 1 and will remain effective till December 1 this year.
According to Excise department officials, taxes running into crores of rupees are pending as arrears because of disputes and litigations over minor issues leading to monetary loss to the government. Applications with tax declarations under the scheme can be filed with the Commissioner of Central Excise and Customs, Vadodara, in respect of areas falling in the districts of Vadodara, Godhra, Dahod, talukas of Amod, Jambusar, Vagra and Palej in Bharuch district.
