Headlights of vehicles painted

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
VADODARA, Sept 3: Headlights of more than 1,500 three and four-wheelers were partially painted yellow by the traffic police in order to minimise the glare that blinds drivers of vehicles coming from the opposite direction, triggering serious head-on collisions, Additional Commissioner of Police M K Tandon told Express Newsline.

The exercise, launched on Wednesday as a part of a drive to check mishaps and create awareness among citizens about road mishaps, will continue for about a week.

The free-of-charge exercise, conducted at Gujarat Electricity Board crossing, Lalbaug Railway Crossing, Manjalpur and Sangam Char Rasta, was the first of its kind in the city, though they are common in the metros.

According to Tandon, there was a good response from the people to the drive on the first day as no one objected or protested. He claimed that some of the vehicle owners even telephoned him personally, praising the move.
