NEW DELHI, September 3: Three more persons fell victim to the dropsy epidemic in the Capital during the past 24 hours, taking the figure of casualties to 44. Around 118 new cases were registered at city hospitals during the period.Informing this here today, Delhi Health Minister Dr Harsh Vardhan said that one casualty each was reported from the All India Institute of Medical Sciences, Deen Dayal Upadhayaya and Ram Manohar Lohia hospitals.
Cases have been registered against five more individuals by the department for the Prevention of Food Adulteration (PFA) in connection with adulteration of mustard oil. They include those who had supplied the Kanodia brand of the mustered oil. Non-bailable arrest warrants have already been issued against 37 individuals.
The minister said of the 333 samples lifted -- 95 of these were provided by the police and the hospitals -- 254 had been tested and 144 found adulterated. He appealed to the affected people to report to the PFA department at A-20, Lawrence Road Industrial Area, with a proof of medical treatment and the receipt of the mustard oil bought so that cases could be filed for compensation.
