Ludhiana basketball from September 4

LUDHIANA, Sept 3: More than 40 teams from all over the district would take part in the District Junior (boys and girls) and Senior (men and women) Basketball Championship which would commence at the Guru Nanak Stadium here on September 4.

From the quarter-final stage, teams would be divided into two groups to play league matches and thereafter two top teams from each group would again play in the super league to decide the top four slots.

Meanwhile, trials to select the Punjab youth basketball teams for boys and girls for the forthcoming Youth National Basketball Championship at Surat will be held at the Guru Nanak Stadium here on September 6 at 2.30 p.m.

Patiala badminton
Patiala: The Patiala District Badminton Championship, which was scheduled to be held from September 4, has been postponed.

However, trials to select the senior badminton team, for participation in Punjab Senior Badminton Championship to be held at Phagwara, will be held on September 4, according to a press release issued here today by the Patiala District Badminton Association.

Punjab shine
S.A.S. Nagar: Punjab bagged four bronze medals in the recently concluded 18th Boy's and 16th Girl's (Sub-junior) National Taekwondo Championships held in Lucknow. Gurpreet Kaur won a bronze in light middle weight, Bhawna Sharma in light weight and Amandeep in feather weight among girls while Mandeep Pal got the medal among boys in bantam weight category.

Two Punjab players had also won bronze medals in the Junior Championship at Kurukshetra recently. Thomas, among boys in the fin weight and Charanjit Kaur, among girls in heavy weight, had bagged medals.
