Varsity, college teachers call off stir
The nationwide strike by university and college teachers affiliated to the All India Federation of University and College Teachers' Organisations (AIFUCTO) have called off after a meeting with Union Human Resource Development Minister Murli Manohar Joshi. The decision to call off the strike will be effective from Monday.

NHRC shrivels to a two-man body
Human rights, it appears, is not high on the Government's agenda. As it conveniently looks the other way, the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC) balances itself precariously, leaving the bulk of work on the shoulders of a truncated three-member team. The Centre has found no replacements for the members who have left the statutory body over the last one-and-a-half years.

Teresa memorial panel dissolved
Mother Teresa Memorial Committee which had planned to install a statue of Mother Teresa and institute an international award in her name has been dissolved by its parent body, All India Minority and Weaker Sections Council.
