CHENNAI, September 6: Former India skipper and coach of the Kuala Lumpur-bound cricket squad, Krishnamachari Srikkanth today gave India a ``fair chance'' of winning gold at the Commonwealth Games and described the team as ``reasonably balanced''.``One-day games are funny and I don't believe in predicting the outcome. I can only say that we have chances of winning the medal,'' he added.
Srikkanth said the team was reasonably balanced and all players, barring a few, by virtue of spending time at the just-ended preparatory camp here, enjoyed a high fitness level.
``Their preparation was good and tips given by Anshuman Gaekward (the Indian coach accompanying the side to Toronto for the Sahara Cup series) and (consultant) Bobby Simspon at the camp should also be useful,'' he added. India, who begin their campaign with an outing against Antigua spearheaded by paceman Curtly Ambrose, was looking to make it atleast to the final, Srikkanth said.
``Australia has got a good side but in One-dayers, the day'sperformance counts,'' Srikkanth said of their formidable rivals who will however be without key paceman Glenn McGrath who has been ruled out with groin injury two days back.
