JAMMU, SEPT 6: Pakistani troops continued targeting solar and halogen lights along international border (IB) in Samba and R S Pura sub-sectors in Jammu region last night, Border Security Force (BSF) said here today.Pakistani rangers have been firing at Sangral, Khatmaria, Mangral, Karotna, Alfa Machal, Bobiya, Londi, Suchetgarh and B T Forward areas during last two nights mainly targeting the lights which make terrorists' movement difficult in nights, a BSF spokesman said adding there was no casualty or damage.
BSF troops retaliated and the exchange of fire continued till this morning, he said.
Pakistani soldiers also targeted forward posts along Line of Control in Rajouri and Poonch sectors of the region in a bid to push militants and weapons into Indian side, defence sources said.
In yet another development, an action plan has been prepared to strengthen Jammu and Kashmir Police and improve its operational efficiency, Director General of Police Gurbachan Singh Jagat said.
``Our approach is notonly to make the whole force compatible to take anti-militancy operations but to involve the force including executive police, armed police and other wings in this task,'' he told police officers at a function held in connection with Police Week at Zewan, near Srinagar last night.
Armed police battalions stationed in militancy-infested areas like Doda, Poonch and Kupwara are part of the Rs 200 crore plan which will be implemented during the next two years, the police chief said.
The matter of raising the ex-gratia grant from Rs one lakh to Rs five lakh is being actively pursued with the government and a decision was expected shortly, the police chief said. In a separate development, ten people including five foreign mercenaries, a police official and a soldier were killed and an Army jawan wounded in militancy-related incidents across Kashmir valley since last evening.
Meanwhile, the Vishva Hindu Parishad has threatened to launch a nation-wide agitation against Jammu and Kashmir government move to amendMata Vaishnodevi Shrine Board Act.
It alleged that the State Government was trying to indirectly take over shrine's management by bringing changes in the Board's 1988 Act.
VHP warned the State Government to abstain from bringing any legislation for amendment in the Act.
The meeting also set up a committee `Shri Mata Vaishnovdevi Sangrash Samiti-- J and K' with VHP State unit working president Tilak Raj Sharma, as its convenor.
