CHANDIGARH, Sept 6: Bhiwani shuttlers made a clean sweep in the under-13 group, winning both the singles and doubles events in the boys and girls sections in the Haryana Mini Open badminton championship which concluded at the Community Centre, Sector 7 Panchkula today.
Top-seeded Sumit of Bhiwani started well in the boys category by beating Sachin Garg of Panchkula 15-2, 15-1, in a one-sided affair. Sumit, later on combined with Ashish to score a 15-6, 15-3 victory over Panchkula's Shoban and Anshul, to score the first double of the meet.
Unseeded Amita reigned supreme in the girls group. She also pocketed a double. In the singles event, Amita had no problem in ousting Purnima of Sonepat in straight games 11-6, 11-1, to bag the first title of the day. Though the doubles final was a complete Bhiwani affair, it was the duo of Amita and Monika who got the better of Meenu and Jyoti 15-8, 15-5.
The under-16 boys title went to Ram Karan of Sonepat, who outplayed his team mate Arvind 15-9, 7-15, 15-12, to win the first gold for his team. Sonepat's second gold medal came in the doubles.
Arvind and Umesh (Sonepat) defeated Amit and Anuj also of Sonepat in a thrilling one-hour encounter, 15-7, 14-17, 15-9.
In the girls category, Faridabad shuttlers held complete sway. In the singles, Roma of Faridabad overpowered Gauri of Panchkula 11-6, 11-2, to dash her hopes of bagging the title in front of her home crowd.
Roma, however, could not coordinate well with Aarti in the doubles final. The duo lost to Chanchal and Rashmi (Faridabad) 10-15, 12-15.
