Panel of lawyers to review pending DDA cases

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, September 6: Union Urban Affairs Minister Ram Jethmalani today said that his ministry was going to set up a special committee of lawyers to review the 20,000 Delhi Development Authority (DDA) cases pending litigation. ``I have taken a policy decision to relieve citizens of the burden of avoidable litigation. The DDA fights citizens with public money and the citizen is at a grave disadvantage,'' he said. He added that he planned to bring this unnecessary litigation to an end in the next couple of months.

The minister felt that at least one third of the cases caught up in litigation were ``corrupt and forcibly done only to enable DDA's lawyers to make money''. He said that he would like Solicitor General Soli Sorabjee to head the special committee.
