Sampras stays on course for fifth title
Former champions Pete Sampras, Patrick Rafter and Andre Agassi all cruised into the fourth round yesterday at the $14 million US Open championships. Sampras, the top seed, breezed past Sweden's Mikael Tillstrom, 6-2, 6-3, 6-1 in the last match of the day on Centre Court to move into a match-up with Russian teenager Marat Safin. Last year, Sampras was beaten in the fourth round by Petr Korda of the Czech Republic in a fifth-set tie-breaker.

Mireya magic marks Cuba's march to title
Cuba effected one of the best rallies in the GP so far to chalk out a 8-15, 15-4, 15-12, 3-15, 15-13 over current champions Russia to come up trumps in the third leg of the Indian Oil Servo Grand Prix Women's Volleyball Championship in Chennai yesterday.

Jeev 66th in European Masters
A double bogey on the three-par 207-yard 13th hole spoiled Jeev Milkha Singh's chance of finishing among top position holders in the Canon European Masters at Crans-sur-Sierre course in Switzerland on Sunday. The top Indian professional golfer reportedly carded two over-par for a total of 288, four-over-par and finished 66th.
