First, a signal malfunction on platform no 7 at Kalyan at around 7 am delayed trains. Then, the body of a beggar was discovered in the compartment of a train leaving Kalyan, which held up the train at Thane for 15 minutes. Heavy rains then led to slow movement of trains near Kurla station.

At around 4.50 pm, the bogey of a goods trains heading towards Mumbai decoupled between Kalyan and Shahad stations. The fault was rectified by around 5.15 pm.

These incidents led to bunching of services. Up trains ran between 10 and 15 minutes slow while down trains ran around five to seven minutes late.

The heavy rains that has lashed the city for the past two days led to water logging at various CR stations at Wadala, Sewri, Kurla and Sion and delayed services by nearly 30 minutes. According to the Colaba observatory, Mumbai received 10.2 mm ofrain in the last 24 hours.

The rains also reduced road traffic to a crawl. Flooding was reported at Matunga bridge, Khar and Milan Subways. As the subways had to be temporarily closed, traffic was diverted via SV Road. Traffic was also diverted at Hindmata compound.

The rains were accompanied by thunder and lightning, which, said the weather bureau, will be a regular feature for the next few days till the end of the season. Three persons were seriously injured when lightning struck them near Nirmal Nagar in Bandra on Monday afternoon. The injured, Azaj Anwar Sheikh, Gaiveri Sher Khan and A Khot, were shifted to V N Desai hospital nearby. Their condition is reported to be serious.
