A field day for Mumbai teams

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
MUMBAI, Sept 7: Mumbai teams had a field day in the Maharashtra State Junior Inter-District and State Open Badminton Championships that got under way at the Kalidas Sports Complex, Mulund (W) today.

The Greater Mumbai teams made it to the semi-finals of the junior boys, sub-junior boys sections while the Mumbai Suburban outfits made the last four grade in the junior boys, sub-junior boys and sub-junior girls sections respectively.

Greater Mumbai's aspirations in the sub-junior girls were stalled by Thane who emerged 2-1 victors in their quarter-final encounter. Promising shuttler Shivani Mayekar had given Greater Mumbai an ideal start accounting for Mayura Wagle 11-4 11-8. However, Mayura teamed up with Shweta Khare to turn the tables in the doubles.
