CHANDIGARH, Sept 7: India's top amateur woman golfer Parnita Garewal and Irina Brar, both of Chandigarh, are among 10 probables selected for the Indian women's golf team for the Asian Games to be held in Thailand in December.According to Madhu Brar, Captain of the ladies section of the Chandigarh Golf Club, the ten probables will undergo intensive coaching and physical fitness before the final team is selected in the first week of November.
While Parnita is currently ranked No. 1 in the country, 14-year-old Irina Brar is the only sub-junior girls to be selected as a probable for the Indian team.
Enquiry ordered
Three executive committee members of the Chandigarh Olympic Association have strongly criticised the Chandigarh Sports Council for giving cash awards to those sports persons who have never represented the state or are domicile of Chandigarh.
COA general secretary K S Sahota, Reet Mohinder Singh and A S Bains, talking to newspersons said that the apex sports body of Chandigarh would take up the issue with the Chandigarh Administration.
The Chandigarh Administration has also taken a serious view of inclusion of `outsiders' in the list of awardees who were honoured recenlty for their achievments during 1995-97.
The COA has also condemned alleged manhandling of a sports scribe during the function and recent alleged misbehaviour by a coach of a trainee. District Sports Office O P Puri has been appointed enquiry officer in the misbehaviour case.
