Junior selector criticises HCA functioning

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
CHANDIGARH, Sept 7: The crisis within the Haryana Cricket Association has gone from bad to worse. After former Test player Kapil Dev's allegations about the `authoritarian' attitude of Ranbir Singh, secretary HCA, state junior selector Surinder Singh has come down heavily on the association regarding the holding of a camp for the state under 19 probables, without his, and some other selectors' knowledge.

``The camp is illegal and unfair. Neither I, nor Sarkar Talwar, who is also a member of the junior selection committee, were informed about the trials. We did not even attend the selection meeting. How could the probables be selected without two of the selectors not being called?'' asked Surinder.

``Since Kapil Dev had come to Chandigarh to impart some tips to the Chandigarh probables and had remarked that HCA was doing nothing for the players, HCA acted in haste and immediately announced the trials at Gurgaon on August 17.

However, the trials were shifted to Rohtak without any notice. Since most of the players were unaware of the change in venue they could not make it to the trials,'' Surinder said.

``Now, the secretary of the Rohtak District Cricket Association has said that the state team would be selected only from these probables it is unfair for those who could not give the trials due to communication gap,'' he said.

He further said that though he had written to the HCA secretary about all this, he was yet to receive any reply.
