Fourth seeds Leander Paes and Mahesh Bhupathi stormed into the US Open doubles quarter-finals, beating unseeded Lan Bale (South Africa) and Danny Sapsford (Britain) in straight sets 6-0, 6-2 on Sunday. The Indian duo reeled off eight games in a row before conceding a game to their opponents.

Lancashire looks set for double
Wasim Akram's Lancashire could land their second English County One-day title after their victory in the Natwest Trophy. The Pakistani all-rounder captained Lancashire to the 60 overs Natwest Trophy on Sunday when they trounced Derbyshire by nine wickets in the Lord's final.

Tough draw for Indian shuttlers
Prakash Padukone, who has for quite some time now been talking of a medal in case of a favourable draw, might not be happy at the prospect of meeting Scotland in both men's and women's preliminary stages. Clubbed in Group B with Scotland, Maldives, Boswana and Sri Lanka, the men led by Pullela Gopichand have their task cut out.
