BJP Govt will stay, says Jaya after several review threats

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Chennai, Sept 8: All-India Anna Dravida Munnetra Kazhagam (AIADMK) general secretary J Jayalalitha today declared that there was no threat to the Vajpayee Government as of now and her party's support to the ruling coalition at the Centre continued.

Asked what she had meant in an earlier statement that her support to the Government was still ``under review'', Jayalalitha, who was talking to mediapersons after a function to admit several persons from rival parties into the AIADMK, shot back, ``It means what it means. `'As of now there is no threat to the Central Government. Why don't you look into a dictionary?'' Only recently, at a senior partyman's family wedding, Jayalalitha had stated that her party's support to the Centre, which had failed to notify the original draft of the Centre on the Cauvery issue, was ``still under review''. The AIADMK leader had first issued her ``review'' threat at a media conference at the party headquarters early last August. If the BJP-led Government failed to notify theoriginal Cauvery Water Draft scheme, she would be forced to review her support to it, Jayalalitha had warned.

Much water has flowed since then, with her allies the MDMK, PMK and the TRC making it clear that they would continue to support the ruling coalition of which they were a part, notwithstanding Jayalalitha's decision. Blaming the media for ``whipping'' up a controversy with regard to her party's support to the BJP-led Government, she said she was being ``constantly accused'' of blackmailing and threatening the Central Government. ``What does blackmail mean? It means holding out a threat for a benefit,'' she said.

`No boycotting PM'

The AIADMK has decided to accord a warm reception to Prime Minister A B Vajpayee when he arrives in Chennai on September 15 to participate in the rally being organised by the MDMK.

Jayalalitha said ``We have no intention of boycotting the Prime Minister when he arrives in Chennai. He will be accorded a reception at the airport by senior party leaders.''
