Inter-school talent contest
Mono acting, second event of the Inter-School Talent Championship Trophy jointly organised by The Indian Express and Pepsi will be held at the Kendriya Vidyalaya, ONGC from 10 am. Spot registration for teams will be done at 9.15 am.Dance ballet
A 25-minute-long dance ballet, `Vaishnav Jan', by students of the city's IPCL School, based on the work of renowned poet Narsinh Mehta, will be telecast on Ahmedabad Doordarshan on Wednesday at 6 pm as part of the children's programme `Ramta Ramta'.
NHRC notice
Following a complaint by city-based women's organisation `Swashraya', the law division of the National Human Rights Commission (NHRC), New Delhi, has issued a notice to the State Chief Secretary calling for a report within four weeks clarifying ``if any rehabilitation package had been prepared for the benefit of the persons affected by demolitions undertaken by the Vadodara Municipal Corporation''. The chief secretary has been asked to submit the report on or before September 21.
Cong protest
Members of the youth wing of the city Congress on Tuesday observed a token fast in protest against the price rise of essential commodities. The members, who staged a dharna, later submitted a memorandum to the District Collector demanding resignation of the State and Central Governments for their alleged failure to deliver the goods.

Competitions

GEB donation
Employees of the Gujarat Electricity Board (GEB) have contributed Rs 60 lakh towards the Chief Minister's Relief Fund for the cyclone-hit victims of Kutch and Kandla. The cheque was presented to GEB chairman Nalin Bhatt. Meanwhile, the Board has detected power theft to the tune of nearly Rs 96.80 lakh between August 10 and 16.
Honoured
A miniature version of the Bhagwad Gita made by city-based printers and publishers Ketan Junarkar and Shivaji Jagdane has been awarded with the Screen Print India Award of Excellence in Screen Printing. The award was recently presented to the duo at the Nehru Centre, Mumbai.
Exhibition
An exhibition-cum-sale of miscellaneous items sponsored by `Utsav' will be held on September 11 and 12 at Jagdish Hall, in Wadiwadi.
