Pilot, Sangma to attend adivasi rally
National leaders of the Congress including Rajesh Pilot, P A Sangma and Ahmed Patel will attend a `Adivasi Ekta Rally', organised by the Congress, in Zankvav village of Mangrol taluka of the district on September 12.

The decision to hold the rally was taken at a meeting chaired by district Congress chief Yusuf Patel and attended by tribal leader and MP Chhitu Gamit, MLAs including Nagarji Vasava, Raman Rathod, Pratap Gamit and Pravin Rathod and Nanu Patel.

ICSI meeting
A meeting of students, pursuing the company secretary course run by the Institute of Company Secretaries of India, has been convened at 11:30 am on Sunday at the K P Commerce college. All students pursuing the course, including those doing the foundation course, have been directed to be present for the meeting. Among others, a proposal to set up an ICSI examination centre in Surat will be taken up for discussion, according to a statement issued by the Company Secretary Students' Association on Tuesday.

Doctors' stir
Agitating resident doctors at the New Civil hospital of the city, said they would approach the police commissioner on Wednesday and seek permission to take out a protest rally in the city. President of the Junior Doctors' Association Pritu Dhalaria said that a meeting of the body was held today, where it was unanimously decided to continue and intensify the stir for higher stipend.

Takes charge
Narhari B Barot has assumed charge as deputy director of information. Barot was promoted and transferred from Gandhingar after the post of deputy director of information fell vacant following the death of Hemant Kumar Sur.

Scholarship
Ex-soldiers and their widows living in Surat, Bharuch, Valsad, Dangs, Narmada and Navsari can apply for merit-based air force benevolence scholarship. The application should reach the District Sainik and Welfare office as early as possible. Officials can be contacted on Monday during office hours so that application could be forwarded to New Delhi before September 30.

Teachers' stir
A section of office-bearers of the Surat Shahar Manya Khangi Prathamik Shikshan Sangh (SSMKPSS) continued their dharna outside the collectorate to press for an increase in wages. Association president Deepak Patel, in a statement, said he had already chalked out a programme, including a protest march from Dandi to Surat, among others from September 15 as a mark of protest.

Meet postponed
The Kakrapar Atomic Power Plant authorities, in a statement, has said that a seminar on `Emergency Preparedness' scheduled for September 9 has been postponed due to unavoidable circumstances.

Get-together
Newly appointed chairmen of 11 committees of the Surat Municipal Corporation today formally met at a get-together after they assumed charge of their respective committees.
