DUTA wants Oberoi out

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
NEW DELHI, September 8: The decision of the executive council (EC) of the Delhi University Teachers' Association (DUTA) to support the FEDCUTA decision to call off the strike was ratified at a general body meeting (GBM) today.

The GBM also resolved unanimously to pass a no confidence motion against DUTA president Shri Ram Oberoi.

Politically-unattached Rekha Dayal of Jesus and Mary College said: ``Teachers who were part of the agitation for a cause are feeling very let down by the decision to discontinue the strike. If the leadership is not willing to fight for the cause of the teachers it should go.'' The widespread sentiment was: had Oberoi really pushed hard, the teaching community would have got a better deal by now.

The meeting also discussed the EC request asking teachers to make-up for the lost teaching days during the strike. A unanimous decision was taken to ratify the FEDCUTA decision and to find alternative forms of agitation.

At yesterday's EC, it was also decided to review the agitation after the October vacations. The DUTA executive also expressed displeasure over the HRD minister's ``failure to invite FEDCUTA in the final round of negotiations''. They also reiterated that though the government had made some concessions, it was below the teaching community's expectations.

DUTA president Oberoi did not attend both the meetings.
