SC not to review law on judges appointment
The Supreme Court yesterday made it clear that it will not ``review or reconsider'' the 1993 Advocates-on-record judgment on judicial transfer and appointments and will decide the nine points raised in the Presidential Reference on the issue in the light of the 1993 judgment. The clarification by the nine-judge Constitution Bench headed by Justice A S Anand came during the resumed hearing on the Presidential Reference to decide on which of the intervention applications should be admitted.

Govt misleading on Bezbaruah, says SC
The Union Government's effort to justify the transfer of former Enforcement Directorate chief M K Bezbaruah is ``misleading'' and is based on a ``misquoted judgment,'' said the Supreme Court yesterday. A three-judge bench, headed by Justice S P Bharucha, expressed surprise that the government was justifying Bezbaruah's transfer after ``completely rewriting'' a Supreme Court judgment on immunity to officials handling sensitive posts from the hazard of frequent transfers.

High Court stays Maharashtra's Rs 15,000 cr water plan
The Maharashtra Government's Rs 15,000-crore promise to make drinking water available in every nook and corner of the State by June 30, 2000, has been choked in the pipeline with the Aurangabad Bench of Bombay High Court clamping a stay on the mega-project on September 2.
