Accused in human scarifice case acquitted

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
OSMANABAD, Sept 9: Additional district and sessions judge S B Dhumal today acquitted all the seven accused in a human sacrifice case in which a five-year-old girl from earthquake hit Sastur village was killed, early last year, for want of convincing evidence.

The mutilated body of Ayeshabi Inamdar was recovered from the ruins of former police patil Gurupad Swami's house on January 30, 1997, about four days after she was reported missing. She was belived to be a victim of superstitious rituals practised to find hidden treasure.

Police had later charge-sheeted Housabai Shinde, Kamlakar Chimukale, Sheshabai Gaikwad, Shesherao Shinde, all from Sastur village and a tantrik

Shahuraj Waghmare from neighbouring Makni village.

Defence counsel Bhaskar Dhengle argued that the accused were falsely implicated in the case and that there was no eye-witness to the incident of human sacrifice as the prosecution had termed it.
