BANGALORE: The Swimming federation of India named 27 probables-- swimmers and five divers-- after the conclusion of the 53rd senior National Aquatic championships here Wednesday. The list includes medal propsects Sebastian Xavier (Railways) and Nisha Millet (Karnataka).

Among the swimmers, Nanavati said that engineering students Meghana Narayan, Hakimuddin and schoolboy Mario Johnson would be allowed to train with their respective coaches so that their studies would not be interrupted. They would be allowed to particiapte in the selection trials, he added.

Hindu Open golf

CHENNAI: Kanpur professional Shiv Prakash led his team comprising C Suresh Kumar, Shiva Nanda and Prasad Puneru, the amateurs to a victory with the best score of 11 points in the Hindu Open Pro-Am competition at the par 72 Cosmopolitan Golf Club on Wednesday.

Shiv Prakash, who defeated Calcutta's Basad Ali in a play off to win the Wills Southern Open at Bangalore last week, played a one under par-72 round (71). However, the win for his team was on the basis of better back nine scores as the team led by Jaipur's Vishal Singh also tallied 11 points. The day's best score was six under (66) by Calcutta pro Rafiq Ali including an eagle on the 16th hole, apart from six birdies and two bogeys which won him a purse of Rs 500. His brother and Classic Indian Open winner Firoz Ali and Vishal Singh shared the second prize for the best score returning cards of two under par (70).
