RAHATA, SEPT 10: Former Maharashtra chief secretary and chairman of the wage revision committee D M Sukthankar has said that the recommendations made by the committee are fair to all and balanced. He said he would defend the committee's stance in the court, if required.Referring to opposition by some labour unions, Sukthankar said they were sore because the committee had quashed some of the additional benefits of the employees. However, the unions were silent about the benefits earned by the workers following the committee's recommendations, he pointed out.
Sukthankar said a group of employees had demanded the gazetted employees' status to get wage revision. The Fifth Pay Commission had opined that the status of gazetted employees was an outdated concept and the state revision committee fully shared the view. He said the committee has even recommended withdrawing this special status.
He said the Fifth Pay Commission's recommendations about the teachers' grades cannot be fully implemented in theState.
He said there were 5.30 lakh teachers in the State and the committee had recommended implementation of a two-tier scale, in-service assured progress scheme and that art college teachers be paid wages on par with teachers from other colleges.
Some employees' unions have said clerks in the Mantralaya and in revenue department had comparatively better promotional opportunities and the committee has agreed, Sukthankar added.
