September 10: Indian Bank had an ominous start in tune with the weather on Thursday in the All India Central Revenue Open invitation football tournament quarterfinal league match. The bankmen started on a brisk pace but in the end were beaten 1-2 by Kerala Police.
Dempo, Goa, seeded direct into the quarterfinals, were a poweraway 4-1 winner over State Bank of Travancore. It was a humdinger of a contest, notwithstanding a sharp shower on either side of the half.
Dempo with their prize catch Tejinder Kumar, who had moved over from Churchill Brothers, had enough ammunition to rattle the SBT pack. To compound SBT's agony, their goalkeeper Feroz Sheriff had an off day. At least on two occasions he seemed to have had the angle covered before letting the ball in.
Tejinder was in the thick of action. His crosses came in as a fodder for Silveira's brace (8 & 70m) and Marcus Carvalho's strike (20m). Orlando (75m) completed the act. Ignatious (22m) struck for SBT.
