Sonia seeks to tighten her grip on party affairs
Over the next few weeks, Congress president Sonia Gandhi will set in motion a series of top meetings beginning with the Congress Working Committee (CWC), and ending with the All India Congress Committee (AICC), which could complete the Pachmarhi process of establishing her hold over the party. These meetings are expected to formalise a restructuring of the Congress and result in a new-look party.

Laloo dares Centre to dismiss Rabri Govt
RJD president Laloo Prasad Yadav yesterday exchanged salvos with Union defence minister George Fernandes and railway minister Nitish Kumar over the move to dismiss the Rabri Devi government in Bihar. Laloo dared the Centre to dismiss the Bihar government and called for immediate sacking of George Fernandes and Nitish Kumar.

No danger to government, says Vajpayee
Prime Minister Atal Behari Vajpayee has said there was no danger to his government and it would complete its full term as the people were satisfied with "our performance.'' The Prime Minister said the people of the country were happy and satisfied with the performance of his government and all the opposition propaganda of a quick fall of the BJP-led government was just their "wishful thinking.''
