NAGPUR, SEPT 11: Claiming that the recent power tariff hike by the Maharashtra State Electricity Board is between 15 to 27 per cent and not 5 to 7 per cent, as claimed by the MSEB, the Vidarbha Jan Andolan Samiti has requested the Chief Minister to stay the hike which came into being from September 1.The Samiti has come up with a detailed report of rate hike and has submitted it for the Chief Minister's reference. It has mentioned that with the present hike in rates, a common man living in a one bed room flat, using power of 10 units per day will have to bear an additional cost of at least 27 per cent.
The Samiti has calculated the following rate hike for the different category of consumers. Residential, religious and educational places - 12 pc (up to 50 units), 58.58 pc (51-200 units), 23.28 pc (201 to 300 units) and 22.89 pc (above 301 units), commercial and business premises, hostels and others - 29.80 pc (up to 100), 84 pc (101-200), 26.31 pc (above 201), Cinema theatre, drama theatre and halls -29.80 pc (up to 100), 84 pc (101-200) and 67 pc (201 and above).
General motive powers for pumping and industrial power (excluding agriculture) - 16.43 pc, HT Industrial consumers (Vidarbha area) - 28 pc in demand charges and 15.51 pc in energy charges, agriculture - 25 pc (up to five HP), 50 pc (5-10 HP) and 66 pc (above 10 HP), metered unit base rates for agriculture pumps - 67.13 pc, poultry and fisheries farms - 53.84 pc.
Power supply for street lights - 66 pc (C Class), 33 pc (A and B class) and 27.77 pc in municipal corporation areas, water pumps - 33 pc (rural area), 10.06 pc (urban area). The only category where the tariff rate has decreased is supply for power looms which has gone down by 2.8 per cent.
The Samiti has also called upon the Chief Minister to direct the setting up of a recovery tribunal to expedite the recovery of MSEB dues from big defaulters.
