Toronto, Sept 11: Olympic 100m champion and world record holder Donovan Bailey could face the end of his career after rupturing an Achilles tendon while playing basketball with friends, a report said here today. The Toronto Sun, under the headline `Is this the end for Bailey?', said the Canadian sprinter was being treated at a Toronto hospital following the injury.
Bailey came to the fore by deposing Britain's Linford Christie in winning the 1995 World Championship title, then breaking the world record by running 9.84 seconds to take Christie's 100 metres title in Atlanta.
He was beaten by his great rival Maurice Greene of the United States, however, at the World Championships in Athens last year.
Bailey said in June, after an earlier Achilles tendon injury, that he would retire after the 2000 Olympic Games in Sydney.
