Mahindras smack CBI for a six

EXPRESS NEWS SERVICE
Mahindras 6.............................CBI 0MUMBAI, Sept 11: Mahindras played like the weather prevailing in the city. They poured all over Central Bank to hit them for a six and extend their lead in the WIFA Super Division Football League match by five points.Mahindras have 28 points from 14 games while BMFC trail them with 23 from 11 games.

The ground conditions were not difficult. At least Mahindras did not make it feel so. They played fluidly and at a furious pace. And after half an hour, they had created two chances which should have been goals. First Mohd Shakeel directed a cross from the six-yard box over the goal then Adeshina Sadiq headed another cross into the CBI goalkeeper Jerome Ghanekar.

Then the floodgates opened in the 37th minute with Manjit Singh sliding in to score the first goal. Sadiq had rolled the ball from the right.

Sadiq scored the second goal beautifully. Running down the centre, Sadiq controlled Siddique's cross, sped past two Central Bank defenders, evaded thegoalkeeper and walked the ball into the goal.

Two minutes into the second half, Manjit headed in the third goal. A cross from Andrew Louis from the right was tipped backward by Jerome but Sadiq was there to head the ball to the better-placed Manjit who nodded it in.Siddique scored the fourth goal with another touch coming from Sadiq while Willy Joy blasted the fifth goal. He and Manjit reacted to a pass from Shakeel, moved forward with the ball. With Manjit making way, Willy smashed a left-footer that hit the roof of the net. Three minutes from time Rolongpong Kabui made it a tennis-like score.

The earlier Super Division match between Union Bank and Central Railway was cancelled due to unplayable conditions.
