Hockey titles for Kurukshetra

CHANDIGARH, Sept 11: Kurukshetra trounced Gurgaon by 7-0 in the hockey final of the 12th Haryana State Women Sports Festival being held at Nehru Stadium in Gurgaon. Sonepat won the third place, defeating Bhiwani 3-1.

Kurukshetra also won the girls under-16 title by beating Jajjhar 5-0 in the final.

Sonepat volleyball team proved their supremacy by winning the final against Gurgaon 15-7, 15-12, 15-13. Spiker Urmila with the combination of lifter Sushama earned maximum points for the Sonepat team.

The third place in volleyball was bagged by Hisar who defeated Kurukshetra 12-15, 15-11, 10-15, 15-12 and 15-9.

Kaithal bagged the handball title, defeating Bhiwani 13-6, whereas Rewari finished third, beating Karnal 12-4.

Ambala won the overall gymnastic championship with 133.65 points. Rohtak bagged second place with 106-80 points whereas Bhiwani were third with 105-55. Chetna of Ambala was declared the all-round best gymnast with 28.05 points. Nomita (Bhiwani) with 27.40 points and Seema (Ambala) with 27 points got second and third places respectively.

Other results:
Kabaddi: Under-16 (final): Rohtak bt Panipat 75-32. Karnal bt Jhajjar 31-30 for third place.
Basketball (final): Bhiwani bt Jind.
Gymnastics: Vaulting horse: 1 Chetana Chahal (Ambala) 8.45; 2 Seema Nanda (Ambala) 8.15, 3 Namita (Bhiwani) 7.95.
Balancing beam: 1 Namita Sharma (Bhiwani), 2 Chetana Chahal (Ambala) 6.80 points, Jyoti (Ambala) 6.65 and Sonia (Ambala) 6.60.
Uneven bars: 1 Seema (Ambala) 5.80, 2 Chetna (Ambala) 5.70, 3 Lalita (Ambala) 5.65. Floor exercise: 1 Chetna Chahal (Ambala) 7.10, 2 Namita (Bhiwani) 7.05, 3 Lalita Thapa (Ambala) 7.

Ludhiana soccer
The Ludhiana District football Junior boys championship will be held from September 25 to 27 at the sports stadium of village Latala, near here.

Entries must reach on or before September 23 with Hardev Singh, DPE or hony secretary DFAS Tara Singh, Ramgarhia Sr Sec School, Miller Ganj, Ludhiana.

Chess in Moga
The 21st National Chess championship will be held here from September 13 to 20.

Many top level national chess players inlcuding former National `A' champions P Kongnivel and Abhijit Kunte, D V Parsad, V Koshy, Neeraj Mishra, R B Ramesh have already confirmed their participation in the championship in which 30 teams are expected.
