CHANDIGARH, Sept 11: Twenty-three teams from all over the country have confirmed participation in the 28th edition of the All India Gurmit Memorial hockey tournament to be held at the Sector 42 Hockey Stadium from September 28 to October 5.Defending champions Central Reserve Police Force (CRPF) and Punjab Police, have however, expressed their inability to take part due to their engagements in the All India Police meet. Meanwhile, last year's runners-up Punjab and Sind Bank have confirmed their entry. The participating teams include Air India (Mumbai), Northern Railways, All India Air Force, Western Railways, ASC, PSEB and RCF, Kapurthala.
Three teams from the City are also in the fray for the title. They are Shivalik Club, Chandigarh Police and Chandigarh XI.
Apart from a Fair Play Trophy, the organisers of the meet, the Rock Rovers, have a special award for individual players like best goalkeeper, full-back, half and forward.
KVS Meet
The Kendriya Vidyalaya Sangathan, Chandigarh Region, will hold the KVS National Sports from October 6 to 10. More than three thousand boys and girls from all over the country are expected to take part in meet. According to a press release, the opening and closing ceremony would he held at the Sector 42 Sports Complex.
